Works closely with Functional lead and Mine, Process, Data and Infrastructure peers along with site, region and corporate representatives.

Purpose

 

  • Within Technical Services, the Operational Technology and Innovation Group is responsible for establishing the vision and leading the evolution, alignment and integration of operational technology platforms and systems that will transform how Newmont operates in the digital era.  This requires close coordination with IT to ensure an optimal IT-OT strategy, structure and supporting enterprise architecture and infrastructure.
  • This will be accomplished by taking a collaborative approach in evaluating current technology and opportunities through digital assessments and engaging regional leadership to align on priority initiatives.
  • The function will develop, maintain and deliver a 5 to 10 year vision and overall enterprise operational technology strategy and roadmap to maximize sustainable value across the mining lifecycle through the select application of digital and innovative technology and solutions.
  • Includes a targeted focus on IT-OT standardization, governance, proactive collaboration, competency and capability, relevant metrics and targeted value-adding programs and data driven continuous improvement across the business. 
  • Responsible for individual Project and consolidated Program Delivery Management of the Operational Technology and Innovation function.
  • Responsible for methodology, metrics definition, process development and improvement
  • Contributes to Governance and Performance Management through performance reporting, issue escalation, metrics/KPIs, compliance, and financial management.
  • Ensure budgets and supporting business cases are thorough, communicated and adhered too.
  • Responsible for Administration, Support, and Consulting for PMO tools
  • Responsible for defining Knowledge Management policies, process and practices, lessons learned, content management and collaboration
  • Contributes to defining PMO strategic priorities, defining department goals and aligning to initiatives

Essential Duties

 

  • Establish, maintain and update the Project Management Framework and disciplines necessary to support a PMO
  • Establish and manage a project methodology incorporating structures, standards, processes, documentation and reporting which is agile, fits the needs of the organization and puts emphasis on the quality of decision making and timely project delivery.
  • Maintain processes to ensure that project management documentation, reports and plans are relevant, accurate and complete
  • Act as a reference point for PMO queries and information and an advocate for best practices in project management.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across programs/projects, building relationships with stakeholders and brokering relationships at all levels.
  • Provide advice and guidance, monitoring and assurance, advocacy and education with respect to programs, projects and their delivery.
  • Lead the implementation and management of portfolio, program and project governance and delivery (SDLC) frameworks and development of appropriate reporting tools which deliver value
  • Influence internal IT / OT stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes, including process improvement, increased engagement and successful solution delivery
  • Facilitate behavioral or practical change in areas of project management and matrix collaboration across IT / OT

Project Lifecycle

  • Establish, maintain and update the Project Lifecycle Delivery Framework and disciplines necessary to the project lifecycle
  • Establish and manage SDLC methodologies incorporating structures, standards, processes, documentation and reporting which is agile, fits the needs of the organization and puts emphasis on the quality of solution development.
  • Maintain processes to ensure that project lifecycle documentation, reports and deliverables are relevant, accurate and complete
  • Act as a reference point for queries and information and an advocate for best practices in SDLC

Project/Program Delivery

  • Manage assigned programs and projects.
  • Complete executive, management and project level reporting for assigned projects
  • Effectively manage risks and resolve issues
  • Provide informed project budget forecasting
  • Manage external contractors, consultants and project teams for quality and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Influence internal stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes, including process improvement
  • Ensures project wide results by creating, leading and motivating teams to achieve common goals and organization wide benefits.

Ensure Quality Delivery

  • Assist and advise Project Sponsors and teams to the best use of project management disciplines and approaches that are “fit for purpose” within the Newmont environment.
  • Establish organization wide project reporting with a focus on value added advice and early identification and resolution of issues and risk.
  • Coach and mentor project sponsors and project managers
  • Review projects for deliverability including adequate resourcing, management and governance procedures and accuracy of financial estimates

Training & Experience

 

Knowledge:

  • Prefer B.S. or B.A. in a business or computer science field, or MBA with emphasis in computer information systems.
  • Best practice project management methodologies and techniques

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a senior project manager or 5 years as a senior program / portfolio manager in complex environments
  • Experience in developing and deploying principles and frameworks for successful project management
  • Experience in developing and deploying project delivery and acceptance processes within an organization utilizing an out-sourced service provider
  • Experience working in a global delivery model
  • Experience in contract management, vendor management, financial management
  • Knowledge and experience managing all aspects of the SAP implementation process using ASAP methodology and in-depth comprehension of project life cycle
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of project lifecycle methodologies (e.g.: Waterfall, Scrum, Agile, etc.), processes and tools.
  • Mining solutions experience a plus.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to delivery of quality results on time and on budget.
  • Ability to work productively in a mixed onshore / offshore team.
  • Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgement and assertiveness, effective time management, initiative and self-motivation
  • Negotiation skills with ability to resolve conflict situations
  • Desire to enhance knowledge and skills of self and others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills with ability to conduct presentations comfortably to large groups
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Experienced user of MS project and the MS Office toolset (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experienced user of SAP Finance and SCM for purchase requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, actuals and reporting
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Project management certification e.g. PMP, CAPM, PRINCE2

Working Conditions

 

  • The position is located in the Denver corporate office.
  • Position requires travel nationally and internationally to assist Newmont’s operations globally.
